Chocolate Cake & Chocolate Frosting
Ingredients for Cake
1¾ cup flour
¾ cup cocoa
2 cups sugar
1½ tsp baking powder
1½ tsp baking soda
salt
½ cup vegetable oil
1 cup milk
2 tsp vanilla
1 cup boiling water
Directions for Cake
Combine dry ingredients
Add remainin ingredients, except boiling water.
Beat at medium speed for 2 minutes.
Remove mixer and stir in boiling water. Batter will be
thin.
Pour into 2 greased 9" layer pans or one 9"x13"
pan.
Bake at 300° for about 35 minutes.
Cool 10 minutes.
Remove from layer pans and cool completely.
Ingredients for Frosting
6 Tbsp butter, softened
1/3 cup milk
½ cup cocoa
2 2/3 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla
Directions for Frosting
Mix ingredients together until smooth and ice cake as
desired.
Apple Pie
Ingredients for Crust
1 cup flour
1/3 cup lard
water
Directions for Crusts
Mix flour and lard with pastry fork until well blended.
Add water until dough forms.
Roll with rolling pin.
Makes one 9" pie crust.
Ingredients for Pie Filling
2 Tbsp lemon juice
1 Tbsp cornstarch or flour
1/3 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup sugar
1 Tbsp butter, melted
1 tsp ground cinnamon
¼ tsp ground nutmeg
salt
6 cups peeled and sliced apples
Directions for Pie Filling
Mix together lemon juice and cornstarch.
Add remaining ingredients, except apples.
Add apple slices and toss to coat the slices completely.
Let stand for 10 minutes.
Roll out pie crust and then line the bottom of the pie
pan with the crust.
Trim excess and moisten edge.
Add filling and top with another pie crust.
Trip top crust ½" beyond edge of pan.
Fold top crust under bottom crust and flute edge.
Cut vents in the top crust.
Lightly sprinkly with sugar.
Bake at 400° for about 40 minutes or until crust
is golden brown.
Grandma's Sugar Cookies
Ingredients
2 cups sugar
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup sour cream
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
1 tsp baking powder
6 cups flour
Directions
Mix all ingredients.
Cover and chill overnight.
Roll to 1/4" and cut into shapes.
Bake at 375° for 12-15 minutes
Decorate with frosting and sprinkles after completely
cooled.
